Prepacked for direct sale or PPDS is food that is packaged at the same place it is offered or sold to consumers and is in packaging before it is ordered or selected. Below are examples of PPDS:

• Sandwiches and bakery products which are packed on site.
• Fast food packed before it is ordered, such as a breakfast bap under a hot lamp where the food is held.
• Products which are pre-packaged on site ready for sale, such as pizzas, rotisserie chicken, coleslaw, prepared dinners, salads and pasta pots.
• Foods packaged and then sold elsewhere by the same operator ie selling onto another retailer or store.
• PPDS food provided in schools, care homes or hospitals and other similar settings will also require labelling.
